The People’s Guide is a product of SRCEH (Sacramento Coalition to End Homelessness) and was published in print form since the late 1970s, starting in the Los Angeles area and in 2013 in the Sacramento area.
SRCEH was founded in July 2013, after Bob Erlenbusch, founder, met with key advocates in the community to determine their interest in being on a founding board & was well received.
The current board represents people with lived experience of homelessness, civil rights attorneys, healthcare, homeless youth & housing advocates, direct service providers & the interfaith community.
The first board meeting was held September, 2013. SRCEH received an initial capacity building grant of $7500 from the Sierra Health Foundation in December, 2013.
SRCEH received its nonprofit status in April, 2014.
The digital People’s Guide was birthed out of a connection made during a local Hack-a-thon sponsored by the County of Sacramento and Hacker Lab, Sacramento.
A collaboration was formed between SRCEH (Sacramento Regional Coalition to End Homelessness) and Joanne Werneke, Joanne Werneke LLC, JWSoftwareDev.com, which was formally founded in 2021.
The collaboration was the result of a financial investment in our work by the City of Sacramento, Dept of Community Response to produce the digital peoplesguidesac.org a directory & self-advocacy guide for homeless and low-income people.
Our Mission, is to make the digital People’s Guide the Gold Standard Guidebook to serve professional public social services people working in the field, to assist people in need of help, and for people just helping their neighbors.
